Bill, the c|net folks were pushing for a limit on how many players we
can support. The real answer is very complex, and the answer you saw
was oversimplified.

We do not impose limits on the number of players. That said, there are
practical limits--like no more than 254 devices on a network segment,
for example--but there aren't limits within our architecture. Limits
also come from the format used for playback, the speed of the server,
etc.

In any case, wired setups can support far more players than wireless.
I told the c|net folks that I frequently have 6 to 8 players running on
my wireless network with no problems, which is probably how the "limit"
was determined.

If you have a fast wired network, a decent server, and you're not
transcoding (your music is in MP3, OGG, WMA, or FLAC format), you'll
have no problem putting a Squeezebox in every room in your
"Texas-sized" home.
