I'm just wondering when we will see a SqueezeBox device (either new product or firmware upgrade for existing ones) that can funtion without the need of the SqueezeCentre server?
I understand the value-add of the server, but the fact of the matter is that more and more home users are getting notebook computers these days and its becoming much less common to have a desktop computer in the home. Notebooks are of course totally inappropriate for running server software, since they must be kept awake at any time that the server is needed, and that's not practical. I'm really interested in getting a SqueezeBox, but its requirement for a server is a deal-breaker for me, since I have no suitable desktop computer to run the server on, nor do I wish to purchase a computer for the sole purpose of running SqueezeCenter. I notice that Sonos is able to access network shares directly from any NAS device with no additional servers needing to be run, which is the functionality I'm looking for. Too bad about the exorbitant price of it though. :( When will SqueezeBoxes get similar functionality so that notebook-only households like mine can make use of what sounds like an excellent product? -Tim -- timmerweb ------------------------------------------------------------------------ timmerweb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16173 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45244 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
