My iMac just died, which was serving as the Music Server for the
Squeezebox3 and the Print Server for my printer. I had all my music on
an external hard drive and had the Squeezebox configured to use iTunes
as its source for music and playlists. I was thinking of replacing it
with an Airport Extreme since I don't actually need a full computer. If
I attach that external hard drive with all of my music directly to the
Airport Extreme, can I:
1. Run SqueezeCenter on my iBook laptop (G4 running Leopard 10.5.2) and
control the Squeezebox3 wirelessly?
2. Feel confident that the Squeezebox3 will pick up the info from the
networked hard drive and run wirelessly without stalling or glitches?
3. How do I get the Squeezebox3 to remember the iTunes settings from my
previous computer (dead iMac) in terms of music folders and playlists
(since I now want to run Squeezecenter on my iBook)
4. Do I have to do anything to the iTunes program on my iBook to get it
to interact properly with the new setup?
I've read about horror stories about getting the Squeezebox to interact
consistently with the Airport Extreme serving as a wireless router with
a networked hard drive attached to it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated in advance!
