If you're seeing the artists listed then the page generation isn't likely to be any faster. The slowdown is in all the database queries required to find the artists for each album. I'd forgotten one other requirement... To suppress the artist shown with the album you also have to make sure that 'artist' is not the first item in the 'Sort By' ordering. Apparently when artist is first in the sorting then it will always be shown (same for year when that option is disabled). You're probably saying "What use is that? I _want_ the albums sorted by artist." and I agree. Still, it's worthwhile just to see the large difference in page generation time, and it gives you some idea of the expense of retrieving artist names for albums.
