Question: Does a dedicated PC/music server sound better than a PC used
for other duties?

- Yes it does.
- No it doesn't make any difference.

Can we put this one to bed now - please? This has NOTHING to do with
sound quality.

To use an analogy...

Do your web pages ever look fuzzy or hard to read?
No - because eventually the TCP/IP packets carrying the HTML make their
way across the internet to your PC as intended by the web page designer.
Your PC hardware cannot affect those TCP/IP packets and their
content...only how quickly they arrive and are rendered on the screen.

Likewise, choice of PC or Mac hardware to run the Squeezecenter
software on will NOT (repeat NOT) affect sound quality when you listen
to music - unless you have a faulty set up in which case you will get
either NO music or music that badly breaks up...this isn't an audio
fidelity issue, it's a computing issue...either that web page arrives
or it doesn't...or it takes ages and arrives in chunks...

People have dedicated servers (I don't by the way) because they just
want their audio system to work like a toaster or kettle. it's NOTHING
to do with sound quality.

JISCO/UPCI - TACT RCS 2.2X with Good Vibrations S/W - MF X-DAC
