The discovery protocol is documented here: http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/SLIMP3ClientProtocol It's basically a broadcast discover packet followed by a unicast response from the server containing IP & port. If the same problem occurs when connected via the wired interface I'd run a sniffer and look at this exchange.
