Actually the typical U.S. home and small business does not have 2 or 3 phase AC power. What we typically and incorrectly refer to as two phase power, or the two phases in our AC breaker panels is really a split single phase 240 VAC service. It would be appropriate to refer to this system as a 3-wire, single phase, mid-point neutral system.
