I've had a similar experience to Howard's. I've worked around PCs for 20 years now (man...I'm getting OLD!) and have experienced 3 drive failures that I can remember. Those are pretty good odds considering the hundreds (perhaps thousands) of machines worked with. At home, I've had a drive start making strange noises. I replaced it immediately rather than risking things. Though the odds may be slim, it is a VERY painful experience, especially if you don't do regular backups. And if you do, restoring the data can be painful. The way to look at it is that like taxes and death, hard disk failures are inevitable. The drive may last 10-15 years, but one day it will not work. BTW, my experience has been with internal drives. I use external USB drives only for moving data around or for temporary storage. -- maggior ------------------------------------------------------------------------ maggior's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9080 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=50299 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
