Both. Particularly with the IR remote, it's easy to rate a song while it's playing (e.g., press and hold the "5" button if you want to give the song a 5 rating). You can do the same thing with the Duet Controller, but it's a bit more involved. TrackStat also allows you to go back and rate songs earlier in the mix (or even those that aren't on the playlist).
