So, regarding the frequency: We can indeed vary the frequency of payments for both more frequent and less frequent if, as we continue testing, it clearly seems the right thing to do. We could also offer preference for users to increase or decrease their support by changing frequency unilaterally (not changing anyone else). I'm not opposed in principle.
As for the proposal of daily, I don't support that. Monthly is more familiar and common. I suspect Peter is right that many would actually feel less good about daily donation. And, most significantly, I think monthly is a good balance for *accountability* which is a core aspect of our design. Even a week is too short, I think, to fairly evaluate the quality of a project's work. A month is a good amount of time where people can expect to see reasonable progress and then consider whether to pledge more or less. Again, I think we can tweak this aspect, but I see monthly as clearly the best MVP starting point. Now, regarding the "monetary buffer" concept… that is the most obvious and best way to work, period. We proposed initially that this would be the way we would handle funds. It's sort of like escrow. However, we have not yet confirmed with accountants or tax attorneys that such a monetary buffer approach is legally acceptable. We have reasons to be concerned because we absolutely do not want to be a money transfer service. See the details at https://snowdrift.coop/p/snowdrift/w/en/transactions and the links from that. Figuring out this issue is one of our high-priority items, but we're juggling many different priorities still.
