This is a fairly recent change. I had to change the documentation I had written for the r-novice-inflammation, and we had to fix many of the current PRs because I had previously taught our experienced R contributors that they should always commit the html as well. But this brings up a larger point: should we create some sort of guide specifically aimed at the lesson maintainers? It makes it much harder for us to guide new contributors when we have to constantly monitor multiple mailing lists and GitHub Issue threads to stay current.
