The UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council has announced a pilot call for Research Software Engineer Fellowships<https://www.epsrc.ac.uk/funding/calls/rsefellowships/> .
This is an exciting step towards the development of a long-term career path for research programmers, something we in this community have all been struggling towards for a long time. Many members of the software carpentry community will be great candidates for this fellowship, and I encourage you to consider applying, if you think you’re at the right career stage for the call. Speaking institutionally, University College London will be keen to support the very best candidates in applications to this fellowship. We're committed to a dual academic-and-support model for the RSE role, so we welcome great candidates who seek a joint position in both the Research Software Development Group and a UCL academic department. Interested candidates should get in touch with me. I can help good candidates make contact with academic colleagues. I think UCL is one of the best places on the planet to be a programmer-researcher.
