Last time that I taught this lesson I started showing the files at

-   ~
-   /
-   /home/
-   /home/my-user-name
-   /home/my-user-name/Desktop

using one graphic user file navigation application (e.g. Nautilus, Finder, 
Windows Explorer)
and after that I said "Now we are going to discovery this files from using the
command line. For we all work with the same files we are going to work with the
files at ~/Desktop/data/ that emulates the Nelle's HDD. ..."

With this I could follow the lesson as it is.
