For the SWC related course I didn't brand it as SWC.
For the Data Carpentry related course I proposed it to the board (which I also sit on :-) ) and they approved it.
In general, I suspect that these would need to be board level decisions unless this becomes common enough that it's worth developing a policy around, but that's just my 2 cents.
