Neil,

Brian Huang and his team at SparkFun Electronics have developed some really
good physical computing curriculum using Arduinos, the Wiring Language and
Processing languages. I've attended his "Microcontrollers for Educators"
workshop last summer and they've got a lot of good lessons and open materials
that get kids thinking about computation and programming in the context of
sensors and physical devices.

Their SIK Binder(zip) is a great open resource to be used in conjunction with
their SparkFun Inventor Kits (SIK).

From my experience with my own kids, physical computing and microcontrollers
are a really exciting way to play/learn about programming, logic, sensors, time
series plotting etc.

Subject:  [Discuss] Resources and examples for young scientists

Hi All,

as part of the outreach activity we're undertaking with EPCC, we're looking to
pull together resources and examples for young scientists and engineers in the
UK (where young is classified as 7-19, but we are aiming at 10-15).

I wondered if people on the list had come across:
- tutorials that provide a good basis for children looking to use programming
to support their scientific discovery
- "inspirational" examples of science being done by children using computers,
aimed at children, parents and teachers rather than policymakers
- existing initiatives where children can get involved in computational and
data science

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Neil
