The Sun units have very limited possibilities for installing adapter cards. It also is a top loader, which seriously increases the odds of accidentally taking it offline when pulling it out to replace a drive. The power draw is simply a matter of what is in the box and how efficient the power supplies are. The 50 drive unit can handle a much more capable mother board than the Sun J4500.
