I'm a bit concerned that I can't read newsgroups in Mail. What solutions
can you offer for this. My classes involve subscribing to 5 or so groups at
once. What accessible solution can you offer. I kind of figured this to be
a simple thing and given my current circumstances and reliance on this it
might mean canceling my order as I absolutely need this function.

Larry,
Just network the two systems and move things over. The g5 has wireless
built in and if you don't have it, wireless is cheap. You probably spent
more money than you needed to spend but you can decide that later. At
least a gig of ram is a good idea and a capacious hard drive as well.
Processor speed is different though and I still haven't figured how to
class it. Personally, wireless keybboards are more trouble than they are
worth but you can always send it back if you find it not working out for
you. If i needed to use one I would butt Not needing one, I'd rather
not.
Any pc can crash but it is less likely with a mac by far than with a pc
and a screen reader. When there is a system issue with the mac that does
not lock it up, if VO gets into trouble, it just relaunches its self and
you can just go on working. You should perform regular maintanance on
your new system though but you'll learn about that and how easy it is as
we go.
News groups use nntp protocol and it is not supported in mail but there
are ways to read news groups on the mac and there are some web based
newsreading systems that work well.

Hi list,
So, I went ahead and ordered my Mac today. I ended up getting an iMac
G5. I went ahead and upgraded to 1GB of ram based on my previous
experiences that you should order double what you think you need. I
know, its a Windows thing but who know what will happen. I also got the
wireless keyboard for fun.
I should get it in a week or so and I'm very curious to see how things
go. I spent the better part of the afternoon reading reviews and all
kinds of information. During that time, I managed to experience two
crashes of my software on Windows and this resulted in the browser and or
Jaws having to be re-started. A problem I'm not anticipating with a Mac.
One thing I forgot to ask folks, does the mail program support
newsgroups? I use them for my classes online. Normally I could just
click a link on the web page for my class and be subscribed automatically
in Outlook Express but if I understand, Outlook Express doesn't work with
VO. However, I assume I can just enter the address in the mail program
on the Mac and be subscribed???
Also, I could have but did not order an application called Move to Mac.
Does this make the jump from the PC any easier or should I just import
things as needed?
Thanks.
