Oops. What you said. Hit down-arrow from the clock and it will give you the date. My bad. I didn't know about that shortcut to get to the status menu. Cool.

I don't think so, but you can hit ctrl+f8--or on a laptop fn+ctrl +f8--and right arrow until you here the clock. That's the keystroke for the status menu, where things like network status, battery, and the current date and time are displayed. Once you arrow to the clock and heard the time, down arrow will allow you to here the date, as it opens the menu associated with the clock. You can also reach the status menu by pressing VO-keys+m twice.
