I almost wonder sometimes if I need to keep the login greeting
playing now that I have the Mac announcing the date and time on
startup. Which reminds me, it always says sometihng about say date
and time application when VoiceOver is all loaded. Odd, but I guess
normal.

even before the login window, if you are using a login window, so
I'm sure you could rig something. However, you do have voiceovr's
announcements at startup and shutdown too.
