I think she just finds the caption panel confusing. One of the difficulties she/we had in general was figuring out how to select an area for VO to read. The metaphor of highlighting text with a cursor by holding down the mouse didn't seem to apply.

I know that you can use office somewhat through the mac speech functions, but don't own a copy of it. As for when it will be compatible with VO, I've heard that it will be but not when.
