Thanks. I went ahead and did this and, between the update to 10.4.4 and
doing this permissions thing, my system seems to move a bit better. Less
hang time and less VO is busy stuff. Maybe its just me but it seems to have
done something.

It's possible that you might find some more information in the help system
or on Apple's website. It's really not a big deal. Many people recommend
doing this every couple of months and before and after installing software
that requires you to enter your password.

to reboot after updating. Don't forget: it's not enough to just repair
