First, it's always a good idea to keep the disc images, I keep them
in a folder called "Software Saves", at root level on my HD.
However, you are where you are and, as long as an application didn't
ask for your password, you should be able to just copy the
application bundle onto whatever device you choose. If it did ask for
your password, then it installed a kernel extension which you will
lose when you re-initialise the HD and re-install the system.
Before doing anythuing drastic, you might want to invest in Disk
Warrior from Alsoft:

It costs $79.95 and you will certainly need sighted help to use it.
You may find it cheaper from Amazon or other online retailers. It can
rescue otherwise unrescuable situations.
