You could also just end the url with a space as well, this wipes out
the extra stuff it fills in for you.

Hi John,
Yes, it's ctrl-a and this is something that works from terminal to
move back to
the start of a line, too. The ctrl-a moves you to the beginning of
a line and ctrl-e
moves you to the end.
I sometimes type this with an extra keystroke sequence when I touch-
type:
the url with an initial space, then the address, ctrl-a to move to
the start of the
string, shift-right-arrow, delete, carriage return.
You don't need the shift, but when I'm typing on my laptop the
rhythm of having
my pinky hit the ctrl key, with my ring finger on "a", and then my
pinky to shift
works better for me. Then the right hand sequence of right arrow,
release shift
from the left hand, delete key, and return.
Ignore everything but the first paragraph if this typing sequrence
doesn't work
for you! It may also feel different if you're not typing on a
laptop keyborad.

Hello Esther:
Thanks, I'll try that but a question, do you mean ctrl-a or
command-a?

John,
Another clunky solution is to start typing the address with a space,
which will not autofill, then use ctrl+a to move back to the start of
the address, advance one character and delete.

John,
There are checkboxes in autofil and I've got them all unchecked but
still on the address bar, My addresses get finished or try to. What
I do which seems to help is select all the text in the adddress bar
with command-a, hit backspace and type real fast.

Hello:
Sorry for the spelling but I have a question, when trying to type an
address
it does an auto fill and I'm wondering how to turn this off?
I went to preferences and clicked on the auto fill button but I
can't
see
where to make a change.
