I've found no way to get mail to retrieve it's messages from /var/
mail (linked to /var/spool/mail) and I don't think you can. The
closest I've gotten is to turn on the mail server, give it a name
just like the one you're using on your account, then have mail
retrieve mail from your local machine as if it were a remote server.
If you don't have the server version of osx though, this isn't
possible. Of course, you can use mail (from terminal) to read /var/
spool/mail, or install pine and use that. Vo won't work well in this
case, but it does work after a fashion. That's why I'm getting me a
braille display. I plan to work braille support into osx, probably
via having the usb driver talk to the usability features, and feed
what is sent to the visual mode of vo to the braille display (I don't
know what it's called, there's a word for it) but I'm talking about
the visual representation of what vo is speaking, apparently there's
a box in the corner of the screen that (if turned on) displays what
vo is speaking. I see no reason why this can't be intercepted, and
sent to the braille display. Of course, me being the individual I
am, and with six million other little tasks I'd like to accomplish,
this won't be overnight, but I will work on it. No clue if anything
will come of it or not, but assuming something does, I'll be more
than willing to share.
BTW I've purchased a used navigator 80. (well, it's someone else's
version of the navigator 80, it's called something else, but I can't
remember what at the moment) It should be here this week, so I can
begin experimenting.

hate to use this as an example, but Outlook is the best thing that
comes to mind. I wonder if you can change the behavior of Mail
(gui) to be more like Mail (shell), but me thinks probably not.

server, which does support mail. but again, it depends on what
