Hi David and Patrick,
Thkank you for your suggestions. The thing is that I can do all you both
mention in your emails but when I either use "control, option and space
bar" or enter key or just space bar, on the system preferences icon
it seems
to open a different application such as dictionary or the hard drive
icon or
some other application, all except the one its supposed too.
Many thanks,
Paul.

Subject: Re: Can't open System Preferences!
Hello Paul and all:
If you use control plus option plus M and arrow down to the system
preferences option and press enter, you get an area that has a scroll
area,
a back and forward button and some other things. If you can land on the
scroll area, you want to interact with it by using the VO keys plus
shift
plus down arrow. Once you interact with this scroll area you will see
buttons ... appearance, dashboard and expose, doc, international, and
more.
If you keep using the VO keys plus right arrow, you will eventually
find the
system preferences button. Use VO keys plus spacebar on the system
preferences button and you will be there. You may need to interact with
certain areas in the preferences using VO keys plus shift plus down
arrow.
Now, if you do not want to do it this way, you can use VO keys plus the
letter D to bring up your doc. If you use the left arrow, you will find
something called system preferences. Use VO keys plus spacebar to
open it.
Again, once inside you may have to use VO keys plus shift plus down
arrow to
interact with some things.
I hope that is of some use. Oh yes, VO keys are the control and
option keys.
You probably already know that though I would hate for jargon to keep
you
from getting your task done.
Good luck.

Subject: Can't open System Preferences!
Hi All,
Whenever I go to the menu with "Control, options, M" and arrow down to
System Preferences it seems to want to open the hard drive icon on
the desktop so I can't get access to this area on my Mac. I have tried
different things even checking to see if it was correctly highlighted
but no joy. It looks like the system preferences icon has somehow
pointed itself to the mac hard drive icon on the desktop, is there any
solution to this problem so I can get access to items within the
system
preferences section.
Many thanks,
Paul.
