Ah, now that id in fact work and I understand what your saying. That
would make sense, but geez it sure had me going. THanks for explaing
this, its nice to have a clear desktop once again.

difference in the way OS X's paste function works--rather than
pasting into the folder you're in no matter what is highlighted, it
will attempt to paste the file into whatever folder you have
highlighted. If you've got a file highlighted, it can't paste into
that, so it does nothing--logically it makes sense to do it this
way even if it is sometimes annoying. That is the only time I've
seen the behavior you describe.
