I think the Rockbox would make it only play standard mp3 and maybe ogg vorbis. I guess if you wanted to record audible books you'd have to record it with something as a wave file and convert to mp3. The idea isn't real appealing, but I do believe Rockbox strips the ability to play protected files of any kind.

Not really. The website explained that you'll be able to download music directly from your pc to the ipod WITHOUT the use of iTunes. I want it for its tiny size and to load audible books and my music onto it; I could care less at this point about buying music from itunes. Frankly, I see no reason to contribute financially to iTunes unnecessarily when their accessibility is so poor. That doesn't mean I wouldn't ever buy from them; it just means I have no great desire to buy from them. I can load a nano with plenty of nice audio without going anywhere near the iTunes store.
