I'd press command-space bar to launch spotlight and type its name
in. See if you can find an associated file.

Hi,
It was a plugin from Microsoft that allows Quicktime to play Windows
media files. But I had no luck with it since it couldn't play
copyrighted files and I could not listen to a webradio station with
it. Nothing happened so therefor I decided to remove it!
All the best,
Christian

What program was it? If you are more specific people who have
tried the same program may have tips you wouldn't otherwise get.
There may be a .plist file, probably in your home directory in
Library/Preferences; try moving the one for the application you
removed. You might also need to reboot.
