John,
If you interact with your text while the compose window is up, you
will see an indication of your attachment. Also, remember to
activate the choose file buttone once you have highlighted the file
you wish to attach or the dialog will bail with no results.

I'm at a loss at the moment. When one composes a new message
and attaches a file, how can one make sure they have attached the
right file? I am only seeing the "attachment" pop up button, which
is for adding attachments. I'm not seeing anyway that one can
actually check the attachment they have added. Of course, it is
late, I am tired and it's probably right in front of my nose.
