Scott,
You should not have to use Windows File Sharing. In fact, not that
it matters much at home, smb file sharing is less secure than AFP
when using MacOS X. As well, you will find that you have less access
to all volumes on the shared Mac when connecting using Windows File
Sharing. I can't remember specifically the original post so
hopefully I'm not out to lunch here but here are some ideas/questions:
1. Try connecting via the IP address if you're not seeing the other
unit when browsing.
2. Check the username and password on the computer you wish to
connect to. The username must be exact, including spaces if any.
The username is not case sensitive and the password is.
3. Personal File Sharing only needs to be turned on on the unit
you're connecting to. That's not to say that the unit you're using
can't have Personal File Sharing turned on, it's just not needed.
4. Some issues have been noted when connecting to OS 9 from tiger
but the opposite is not true. If all the units are OS X, there
should be no problems.
