connectiong to the network

I am in an office where they all use Macs, of varyuing versions but  
still all Macs.

Is there a way to get this Mac connected to the network to drop off  
file and the like in the inboxes and so on?  I tried connecting to  
the server and then browsing, but it didn't see anythinbg,  What is  
wrong?
