Well, as I'm the one who started this I think I should perhaps finish it with an observation. I think Jane's points are perfectly valid and the example you give with a car below may or may not apply, it used to be that if you owned a car, then it was assumed that you knew a fair bit about the automobile you owned, even to the point of carrying out your own servicing of the car. But now? Well who does (or even who can) service their own car because you have to have particular tools and training thus this list example can easily be taken to the computer platform, why would anyone bother with LINUX or UNIX if the GUI presented over the top of another operating system does the job? Why would anyone with limited time bother to even try to service a computer when the tech chap down the road or the nearest Apple Service centre can do the job. I wanted to know about the terminal and LINUX/UNIX because I've always been interested and I thank the list members who rose magniviciently to the occasion and gave me some info to start on, I also acknowledge that this information would probably bore allot of other list members to absolute tears, so does watching grass grow bore me too but I'm sure some list members may be interested in that <smile>

Cheers

its all about reading what you got. you don't just buy a car and not know what kind of gas it takes, what kind of engin it has and when yoiu need a tire change you read the tire and see what size it is.

its the same, all over the apple site it brags about the unix under the hood. and it was a funny, funny, laugh, laugh, joke joke. how about you lighhten up. it wasn't meant to be mean.

now how about you grow up.

OK, Gabriel. I am going to speak up now, and publicly, becaus eyou tend to act this way publicly and I am sick and tired of it.

If someone criticizes, you always come back with something sarcastic. If someone just notices they have something for the first time, you make a comment such as the one below.

Dude? What the hell is your problem? It's time for you to lighten up. Not everyone is as knowledgeable as you claim to be. Not everyone is necessarily aware of what their Macs can do. I certainly am not aware of *all* of the features it has, nor do I take advantage of it.

If you are going to keep treating people with such a superior attitude, eventually people will quit wanting to ask questions, learn, explore.

Grow up.

Hi!

I've just noticed the Terminal utility of OS10, will this allow me to run LINUX software of any description? I've always wanted to get into LINUX.
