You can try pressing the power key, wait two seconds, and then press enter. Worse case scenario, just yank the power cord, but I would wait until the drive has settled down. I am still confused as to what model Mac you have. I looked it up, and the Beige G3 didn't have USB. Are you using an add-in USB card?
