Ok. I was able to set a master password. but I still can't become root. I tried what David suggested going into net info manager and activating the root user and then setting a ppassword, but still su doesn't work. It says su password: I type in my password and then it says su: sorry. I'm not sure what's going on here, but its really weird.

Were you able to set a Master password? If not, there is the ability to reset this password with the Install DVD. At least there used to be in Panther and jaguar. I haven't actually did it in Tiger but I think it's still there. Simply startup your machine with the Install DVD (restart it with the DVD in your machine and right after the chime sounds, hold down the "c" key) and wait for the first dialog. Then turn on VO and go to the menubar and there should be a "Reset Master Password" option under one of the menus.

If you were able to set the Master Password and you still got this message, sorry for making you read all this.

Later...
