Dane,
I just tried and was able to listen to a real media stream. I assume
you've downloaded Real player. There is a check box in Safari:
Preferences: General that will stop automatic playing of media it's
toward the bottom of the page.
Also, did the download manager window come up after you clicked on
the download link?
