James North had many business and personal practices that I don't necessarily condone, but the man provided the accessible game community with a half dozen titles that still hold up well after many years. His heart was in the right place, and I don't believe he ever set out to rob anyone of anything. James was, unfortunately, someone who suffered because he did not conduct himself professionally on e-mail lists, and thereby lost the respect of some of his potential customers. He undoubtedly made mistakes in his business practices, but he was far from a crook. He, and many other developers in the accessible games industry, have been unfairly treated by people who do not understand the job that we do, and how much of it has to be for the love of it, rather than for the money. Some have a thicker skin, and understand that those who flame, slander, or pirate our games are the minority, and that the rest really do appreciate what we are trying to accomplish. As someone who obtained the rights to the old ESP Softworks titles that were under Mr. North's direction, I am uniquely positioned to be able to see the entire story, and I can tell you that you could not be more wrong. I currently have no contact or ties to James North, but I do hate to see mis-conceptions and falsehoods spread about the man.
