Hi Alastair,
You asked for someone to test the following:
8 Test cases:
1: http://sf.id.au/js_tests/onmouseover/mouseover-event-link.html
VO focus remains on the link but the mouse jumps to the other
location. VO does not tell you so. I only knew because I knew what
to look for.
2: http://sf.id.au/js_tests/onmouseover/mouseover-event-link-delay.html
VO works the same as it did for site #1.
3: http://sf.id.au/js_tests/onmouseover/mouseover-event-non-link.html
I could not get it to fire the mouse consistently. Once in a while
it would do so but I couldn't come up with a concrete reason why it
worked the times it did.
4: http://sf.id.au/js_tests/onmouseover/mouseover-event-non-link-
delay.html
VO worked the same as it did in site #4.
5: http://sf.id.au/js_tests/onmouseover/mouseover-event-link-add-
text.html
VO performed similarly to the way it did for site #1. That is, the
mouse moves to the other location as it should but VO does not let
you know.
6:
http://sf.id.au/js_tests/onmouseover/mouseover-event-link-add-text-
delay.html
VO performed as it did for site #6.
7:
http://sf.id.au/js_tests/onmouseover/mouseover-event-non%20link-add-
text.html
VO performed in a similar fashion to site #3. I was able to make it
fire sometimes but not in a consistent manner so that I could come up
with a pattern.
8:
http://sf.id.au/js_tests/onmouseover/mouseover-event-non%20link-add-
text-delay.html
VO performed as it did for similar sites.
A couple things to note:
If you did not have all cursors tracking each other, I believe that
the results may be somewhat different. I say this because if the
mouse is not tracking the VO cursor, there would probably be no
reason for the link to react because the mouse wasn't there to cause
the reaction.
As well, when the mouse fired more than once in sites #1, #2, #5 and
#6, the mouse only actually moved on the first fire. That is to say,
on the second or third fire, the mouse did not actually move to the
other location or to the added text.
Lastly, due to this lack of announcing of the movement or even that
it is a "On MouseOver" kind of thing, a VO user would not even
realize that they had come upon such a link.
I guess that means that VO has some work to do with respect to this
sort of scripting on web-pages. Just my findings, if anyone has
anything further especially with respect to sites #3, #4, #7 and #8,
it would be great.
