Hi Jane,

I use a $40 USB headset with a microphone to do my podcast on the Mac and it seems that once I've made this change it automatically defaults to that when I plug the headset in again but I could be mistaken. Don't forget to check preferences in the actual program that you use them with. For example, I find that when using Sound Studio that I need to make the change in Sound Studio preferences and then again on the Mac. But, it seems that it stays after that change and if I go unplug my headset and plug it in again later it does this by default. Maybe it won't if you turn off the machine or have it sleep; I don't know.

Good luck.

Cheers!

Subject: getting mac to switch from speakers to USB headset automatically

Hi, all.

I just got a USB headset with microphone to use as part of a job. If I plug the headset in, I have to go to system preferences and manually switch the input and output to the headset. Was wondering if there is a way to set this up so that I don't have to do that/ It's a cheap set, only cost $43 at Staples.

Jane
