James,
if the pdf files are normal files, I.E. not scanned images, and not  
protected with adobe 6.0 drm crap, then yes, preview (and softcon pdf  
viewer) can see them and ead the pdf files just fine.  Otherwise,  
there's not much you can do.  I've only run across one pdf file that  
adobe could handle that preview couldn't, but a quick run through  
omni pro took care of that.
