Yep, I have to go with you on that one (whatever the reason for the inaccessibility). It's a black eye and sometimes obscures the really good things Apple is doing with VoiceOver. It's a flagship app and, as such, should be accessible...and I haven't heard any convincing arguments to the contrary.
