Hmm, that's a fare guess, I think. I'll just add it to my list of differences between what I'm used to and what actually happens, <grin>. I wasn't really looking for a solution, more looking for a reason, and yours makes sense, thanks.
P.S. on a completely off topic note, does anyone have a word for the state your brain gets into when trying to use too many different speech interfaces? In the last hour, I've used voiceover, orca, yasr and emacspeak, sometimes simultaneiously on multiple machines. gahhhh. I've used emacspeak and yasr for years, but for a moment there I could hardly remember how to do anything <grin>.
