Hi Scott,
Unfortunately, public lists that are self-moderating have these
sorts of things happen. This list is certainly valuable, and the
vast majority of subscribers are helpful and considerate folks. The
two problems that we have here are a specific clash of
personalities and manner of posting, and, as with all lists, a few
people who seem to prefer trolling and presenting flame bait many of
us, including myself, end up taking.
The important thing is to remember what the list is about and
to remain focused on that fact. as Tim indicated, stating opinions
in a constructive manner and facilitating civil dialog is perfectly
acceptable. We can do without the other nonsense that takes us off
course. I'd go so far as to say that certain individuals seem to
really prefer to insight disagreements, but, again, this is the
nature of public lists. We just have to keep in mind that we are
here as VoiceOver users sharing knowledge, helping one another and
finding solutions to problems. A little lively debate and
disagreements from time to time are bound to happen, but they should
not be the main attention of the list.
Lastly, let us agree to disagree about iTunes and its lack of
accessibility. It's obvious that everyone has differing opinions as
the importance of iTunes and their daily usage of it. I, as I've
stated, don't consider iTunes an accessibility show-stopper and
thanks to Tim's document, use it affectively for what I need from
it. However, this is my personal opinion and I perfectly understand,
respect and appreciate the frustrations and dissatisfaction
expressed by others here. The thing is, beating a dead horse and
projecting the itunes issue to a global Mac problem only is
counterproductive. Personally, I'd rather be a Mac apologist than a
Microsoft fanboy, but, again, that is my personal attitude.

Its unfortunate that this lis seems to be loosing its direction. I
realize we all have our own opinions and we should be able to state
them without fear of being jumpped on, but at the same time we
should consider our comments with care. I've always approached my
messages from the point that if I wouldn't say it to your face, I
wouldn't type it in an e-mail. The accessibility of Itunes is
relavent from the point of how we can work with it, but I would say
beatting up on Apple over it, this list isn't the best place. I'd
say reminding Apple in other ways of issues such as these would be
best.
I'd really like to see this list continue with information being
exchanged and not turn into another list of flames etc. I for one
have learned a lot here and I know others have, but at the same
time I know some have left the list and no one gains from this. We
all have knowledge to share and we all have a delete key. How about
we move on and learn to ignore meesages that are intended to bate
folks into arguing, its pointless. I'd rather get 20-30 messages a
day of value than of garbage. This list is fairly low traffic and
most of its good stuff, so lets pull this thing around and try to
make it 90% of good stuff.
