thought on programming iin Python

I've never done the Python thing, but perhaps, instead of spaces to  
start, you put in a character that isn't used, an asterisk or a pound  
sign or something, in lieu of a space.  Then do a find and replace  
and put ### or however many it is, and then replace it with spaces.
