Hi all. I fixed my sound!!!

I really recommend that anybody with one mac have two if you can afford it somehow; that way you can check your steps on one if the other isn't talking.

I knew that the problem had started when I was navigating the output devices in system preferences sound. So I thought if i could get back there i could fix it. so I traced the steps on the other computer. if you open system preferences from the terminal, the search field is two vo-arrows to the left. You can type sound and hit enter and you will be in the sound window. two vo-arrows to the right and you click output to make sure that tab is selected. three more to the right and interact with output devices and arrow around until it talks.

Since my computer isn't talking, I had to ssh in from another computer. but I know that if you open an application from the terminal via ssh, you will be then in that window on the computer where the command is being carried out. so i was able to ssh in, carry out the command, and then navigate following the steps I had worked out on the other mac. I don't know why I didn't think of this before.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
