Subject: Audio midi setup

Hi all.
I think I sort of figured out the aggregate devices dialog but I have questions about audio midi setup. I'm trying to set up my Logitech x-530 speakers. Btw, in case anybody is thinking of buying these, they sound nice but for stereo ssources only play out of the front speakers instead of all speakers and the back speakers aren't as loud as I'd like them to be; unfortunately it's difficult to detect all this when you are shopping. But music generally does come through all speakers and sounds nice. At any rate, the audio midi setup looks somewhat confusing to me; I have it working but am not sure it's exactly right. What is confusing is that first you have the subwoofer button and a popup menu for channel number. But then you have left front and center buttons and then just one channel popup menu, then the right front button and two popup menus. then you have left surround and right surround and two popup menus again. It's that middle set that is different from the pattern and throws me off. Also, you seem to have to make the changes before you can really test the results. All of this is of course if you choose multichannel and 5.1 surround. I also don't know how channels are supposed to run? Should your subwoofer be counted as 1 or 6 and should center usually be 2 or 3? I did a google search and found general explanations of audio midi setup but no real howto so I guess most people don't need it broken down like I do. Any help with this would be much appreciated.
