In that case, I stand corrected and am overjoyed to find that deep searches are possible.

Thanks!

Hi,

I found that search functions for this list on the Mail Archive
now support date ranges, wild cards, Boolean operators,
proximity searches, and a host of other features.

To repeat for new users, it's possible to search the discuss
list entries from December 2, 2005 onwards by using the
search box in the Mail archive web page for this list at:

http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/

The default is to search all fields with the "AND" operator so
that all terms must be found to produce a match. With the
new features you can tailor your search.

Example: looking for Cheryl's post about how to install
Firefox using date range, keyword, and author of post
lets me enter a search string:

from:"Cheryl" date:[20061101 TO 20061207] Firefox

and get 14 matches. Looking down the links gets me to a
few posts for the instructions within the first 6 entries. I can
use this to refine my search dates, drop the "from" field, and
read other people's comments on the posts. If your search
leads you to select a link that comes in the middle of a thread,
you'll find links for adjacent thread posts at the bottom of the
page.

One warning: like most linux and unix commands, the search
is case sensitive. In the date range I have to capitalize "TO"
in order to search from November through December 7, and
I need to put the post author's name in quotes.

For more details, see the Mail Archive FAQ on search syntax at:

http://www.mail-archive.com/faq.html#search

You can also put a search form to the Mail Archive discuss
list archives onto your own web page by adding the html code:

<form action="http://www.mail-archive.com/search"; method=get>
<input type="hidden" name="l" value="[email protected]">
<input type=text name="q" value="" size=25>
</form>

Maybe we could ask Saqib to add this search form feature to the
Macvisionaries Discuss Archives page, and have him add the
address of the VoiceOver wiki at:

http://www.blindtechs.net/wiki/

to the VoiceOver links?  HTH.

Cheers,

Esther
