I do email, though I've gone back to Pine and Mutt just because I like to
see things in braille, but it isn't that there's a problem with apple
email or anything. I use a combination of firefox, shiira, and safari for
web browsing--there are strengths and weaknesses to each but I can pretty
much get anything done with the combination. For audio I use Windows Media
Player (no longer supported), flip4mac quicktime components for windows
media player (now supported instead of wmp), realplayer, vlc, and audio
hijack pro. I use audio hijack pro for recording, timed listening to music
and alarms, and I like it very much. I make a lot of use of the business
and people widgets of dashboard for looking up addresses and phone
numbers. I do use text edit, though my editing needs are not complex;
tried Nissus and didn't like it at all but to each his/her own. I also use
the terminal a lot, but that is to be suspected since I have roots deep in
linux. I use sox wrap and itunes for converting audio files; also iTunes
for audible.com. I use visiovoice for converting from text to audio and
infovox-ivox for some better voices (in my opinion). I don't much use
Skype but I know some on this list do. I'm not happy with my scanning
results to date, though I think some on this list have had more positive
results than I. I use zterm to transfer files between my mac and my
braillelite. this is kind of a random list i know and without details, but
I think it probably covers what I do at present. while i still also use my
linux machines, if they quit on me I could manage fine with the mac. I do
use emacs and nano in terminal for some editing, again because it allows
me to see what I'm doing in braille.
