Hi:
A couple of points based on knowing Gabe and what I've read here in terms of
postings.
First, I was one who found this list to be totally non-productive when Gabe
began insulting other people on a personal level. His comments went from
discussion about his views on the Mac to insulting people on this list.
And, there was absolutely no reasoning with him. So, I unsubscribe and
recently joined again as, outside of Gabe's contributions, I found this list
to be helpful.
Second, I think that if someone needs to be removed from an email list twice
for inappropriate behavior that they probably don't have anything to
contribute or lack the capability to do it intelligently. If I were
moderating a list and someone was conducting themselves in the way Gabe was
I would not allow them back on again. His conduct was destructive to what
the purpose of this list is.
Third, I know Gabe personally and he mentioned to me that he was going to
ask to be allowed back on this list. I cautioned him that even I left the
list because of his behavior and he seemed to understand the error of his
judgment. I think that Gabe is actually trying to be a better person and
that he recognizes his approach toward people in the past might not have
been right. (Obviously we know it wasn't.) If someone were willing to work
with Gabe in the way that has been suggested, I know he'd be receptive to it
so long as he was comfortable with the person. So, if such an arrangement
were in place then I say allow him back on. However, if someone isn't
willing to step in and assist him in his approach then I don't believe it
will serve this list, its members and what our purpose is in any meaningful
way what so ever.
To those of you who argue that we should have thicker skin in terms of how
we perceive things when we are using email, I say you are partially right.
Just as we should try not to derive emotion beyond what is said in an email,
the writer has many responsibilities to be civil and respectful in his or
her postings. Its not my responsibility to tolerate hate, insults or
demeaning remarks such as those written previously by Gabe. My
recommendation to allow him back on with moderated support/assistance is
very hesitant. And, lest you feel I'm talking roodly about someone I know,
I've said this and more directly to Gabe.

Subject: moderator of this list seeks consensus
Folks,
As some of you know, Gabe Vega, also known as blindTech, has been removed
from this list twice in the past before I began moderating. He has sent me a
message apologizing for previous behaviour and requests to be let back on
the list. I guess I'm looking for a consensus for whether I should give him
another chance. I know some members unsubscribed because of him before and I
wouldn't want to make a decision without feeling the waters. I'm giving it
24 hours for anyone who has any objections to respond.
Thanks.
