Hi Greg, I think Preview gets accented characters in pdf documents, but that VoiceOver is English only. VisioVoice from Assistive Media works nicely for French; it might be a possibility for German.

I think Gordon Smith looked into this last June, and concluded there were some files that he couldn't read in Preview that he could read with Adobe Reader under Windows, and he was going to check on planned support in Adobe Reader Professional. You might search through the archives, or perhaps James or Gordon could comment.
