I discovered something about python that may be of interest to you.
If you indent with tabs, instead of with spaces, VoiceOver will say
"tab" each time that it encounters a tab at the start of a line. So,
for example, if you have used two tabs, VO will say tab tab. I don't
know if you're still interested in solving the problem of how to keep
track of indention, but I thought I'd mention it in case you were.
I've found that determining the amount of indention is much faster
with tabs than with spaces.
